Overview

About the Role  

The Advancement Research Analyst partners with the fundraising teams in the Advancement Department to identify and meet prospect information needs. Under the direction of the Advancement Services Director, the Research Analyst oversees prospect research, assists in the identification of prospects and prepares research profiles as requested on identified prospects to support the fundraisers and fundraising priorities. 

The Research Analyst will demonstrate a background of working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds, using a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible approach. 

 

Essential Duties  

  • Conduct research proactively and as-requested according to the ethical standards of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA).  
  • Prepare confidential profiles on prospective donors, including individuals, foundations, and corporations for use by the President, Vice President for Advancement, Advancement staff, and The Huntington’s Senior Staff. 
  • Update and maintain donor and donor prospect profiles and database records, including biographical, financial, and philanthropic information. 
  • Utilize and employ electronic donor prospect screening services. 
  • Independently and proactively identify new donor prospects. 
  • Undertake financial analysis of donor and prospect wealth. 
  • Assist the Advancement Services Director with portfolio management for the Advancement team and other.  
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of donor information and maintain appropriate recording and use of information in the Huntington’s constituent database and supporting systems. 
  • Participate in and contribute to the formulation of policies related to the processes and procedures of prospect management and related infrastructure support activities. 
  • Manage special projects and other duties as assigned by the Advancement Services Director. 

 

Candidate Requirements and Experience  

  • Knowledge of prospect research tools and techniques. 
  • Strong computing and online research skills: proficiency with relational database software and online databases. Proven ability to learn to navigate unfamiliar systems and computer applications. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office products, particularly Excel. 
  • Excellent written communications skills. 
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines. 
  • Familiarity with data-mining concepts and techniques. 
  • Ability to work independently and as a self-starter in a team-oriented environment. 

 

Preferred 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher and 3 to 5 years of prospect research experience. 
  • Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge and tools needed to analyze and report on data. 
  • Familiarity with the Los Angeles Area philanthropy.
