Full-time Field Organizer Position

Description

Trabajadores Unidos Workers United (formerly known as Young Workers United) is dedicated to improving the quality of jobs for workers in the Bay Area. We fight for dignity and respect in the low-wage service sectors through worker organizing, grassroots advocacy, leadership development, and political education.

Employment Opportunity: Trabajadores Unidos Workers United is seeking a new bilingual (English/Spanish) Field Organizer to help build out our organizing priorities with immigrant workers in low-wage industries in Oakland and Alameda county.

Responsibilities:

Organizing (50%)

  • Building TUWU’s membership of low-wage immigrant workers, many of whom are from the Latinx community, to use collective power and advance economic justice.
  • Develop and implement base-building plans and activities for TUWU membership. Implement worker-led campaigns and priorities as determined by Field Director
  • Coordinate and conduct in person recruitment of community members to community programs, events and actions, including phone calls, in-person meetings and use of social media.
  • Implement membership in political education and internal program activities.

Outreach & Worker Services (30%)

  • Coordinate and help implement community outreach and education activities related to workers rights, including planning and facilitating orientations workshops, conducting street outreach, and developing outreach materials
  • Coordinate and conduct individual or group meetings with low-wage workers experiencing workplace issues and manage cases, including documentation and filing of appropriate administrative claims.

Administrative & Organizational Support (10%)

  • Processing administrative tasks as needed in a small organization, which can include organizing and keeping appropriate documentation as well as records of all services provided; managing detailed information on community members seeking services; and reporting information as appropriate to funders and other stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Experience doing labor or worker organizing with immigrant workers required.
  • Strong written and verbal communications in both English and Spanish are required.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision; must be well organized, persistent, and self-motivated.
  • Commitment to worker and member leadership in all aspects of the organization’s work as well as to gender, racial, social, and economic equality
  • Ideal candidates have experience working and building trust with low-income immigrant workers including at least one year experience as an organizer or community advocate.

Physical Requirements:

  • Expected to travel on foot and by public transit on a daily basis throughout the Bay Area

Employment Terms: This is being offered as a regular full-time non-exempt position with an hourly range of $32.69-$35.10 per hour (estimated salary range of $68,000 – $73,000 DOE. We offer excellent benefits with medical and dental coverage, plus paid vacation, sick time, and holidays (including a 2-week winter closure). This position will be supervised by our Lead Organizer.
