Overview

Father & Community Engagement Coordinator (FCEC):

The FCE Coordinator is a key position within the Alternative Community Strengthening Team at

SOMOS Mayfair, which operates two Family Resources Centers in East San José. This position

has been designed to support positive male and fatherhood involvement in the development

and success of young children, youth and their families, to increase leadership opportunities for

fathers in our community; and, to consistently advocate for whole-family and whole-community

approaches to address systemic inequities in East San José. The FCE Coordinator reports to the

Chavez Family Resource Center Site Supervisor and will work with a team of Coordinators in

addition to the FRC Manager, and Director of Community Impact and Policy to execute our

proven SOMOS model bridging early learning, leadership development and community

organizing strategies.

This position will be responsible to co-develop and executing strategies to increase

father/male engagement by designing effective outreach strategies, facilitating learning

spaces prioritized by existing fathers/males engaged, assessing needs, supporting the

leadership development of participants, and bridging services and resources by activating our

current ecosystem of partnerships.

Specifically, the Coordinator will conduct thorough needs assessments and make internal and

external referrals based on individual and family needs of each participant; this includes

connecting with system partners at the County and City levels, partner school districts and other

family-serving nonprofits. This position will co-create and co-facilitate educational learning

spaces to support the development and growth of individual participants and to foster a greater

understanding of child development; this may entail implementing existing curriculum or

designing new home-grown programming. The Coordinator will work with a group of community

leaders to support their leadership development journey by following our existing model and

protocols. As SOMOS unveils advocacy campaigns or efforts to elevate concrete community

needs, it is expected that this position will actively support said efforts by participating in

actions and/or creating learning spaces to conduct root-cause analysis with an equity and

social justice lens.

Lastly, this position will work in an ecosystem of strong partnerships, including: the Sí Se Puede

Collective, First 5 Santa Clara County, Alum Rock Unified School District and East Side High

School Union District. It is expected that the incumbent will coordinate or support in the

As part of our evaluation and learning strategy, the Coordinator will enter and manage all data

information related to areas of responsibility and support with messaging and marketing

strategies as needed.
