Overview

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and bilingual Field Operations Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in vegetation management, strong leadership abilities, and proficiency in both English and Spanish. This role involves leading and managing a crew, ensuring projects are completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulatory standards. This position works closely with farmworkers and organizers in North Bay Jobs with Justice (NBJwJ), who are developing and implementing a just transition by and for immigrant and Indigenous communities at the intersection of economic, racial, and climate justice.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Team Supervision:

– Lead, supervise, and coordinate the activities of the vegetation management crew.

– Conduct daily briefings to communicate work plans, safety protocols, and project updates.

– Provide bilingual support and training to crew members to ensure understanding and compliance.

2. Project Management:

– Plan, execute, and oversee vegetation management projects, including: fire fuel reduction,, habitat restoration, creek maintenance, invasive species removal, home hardening, and evacuation routes.

– Work with NBJwJ to confirm crew members for projects.

– Develop plans, allocate resources, and assign tasks to crew members once on the project site.

– Monitor project progress and make adjustments to ensure timely and within-budget completion in

collaboration with NBJwJ.

3. Safety and Compliance:

– Ensure all crew members adhere to safety standards and regulations.

– Conduct regular safety inspections and address any hazards immediately.

– Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations.

4. Client Relations:

– Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding project progress, changes, and issues.

– Maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and service excellence.

– Address client concerns promptly and ensure satisfaction with project outcomes.

5. Technical Expertise:

– Utilize knowledge of fire fuel reduction, land stewardship, habitat restoration, creek maintenance,

invasive species removal, home hardening to guide project decisions.

– Identify and manage safety or other issues that may arise on the project site.

– Ensure proper maintenance and care of the land to reduce and prevent fire.

6. Equipment and Resource Management:

– Oversee the use and maintenance of vegetation management equipment and tools.

– Ensure proper inventory and storage of materials and supplies.

– Coordinate the repair and replacement of equipment as needed.

7. Administrative Duties:

– Prepare and maintain accurate records, including project documentation, employee records, and safety

reports.

– Assist in the preparation of bids and proposals for new projects.

– Manage inventory of tools, equipment, and materials.

Qualifications:

– Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in forestry, conservation land management, or a related field, with at least 1 year in a crew lead role.

– Education: High school diploma or equivalent; a degree in forestry, conservation land management, or a related field is preferred.

– Language Skills: Proficiency in English and Spanish.

– Skills:

● Strong leadership and team management abilities.

● Excellent organizational and project management skills.

● Proficient in the use and maintenance of forestry and vegetation management tools and

equipment.

● Knowledge of local flora and fauna, land treatments, defensible space assessments and treatments

● Effective communication and interpersonal skills in both languages.

● Ability to plan and direct efforts of crew members towards safe and efficient completion of a

project.

-Key Competencies:

● Strong commitment to and understanding of worker justice and the labor movement, gender and

racial justice, immigrant justice, climate justice, and an intersectional social justice movement

● Knowledge of resilience work and conservation land management practices

● Ability to work effectively & collaboratively within working class, BIPOC and LGBTQ+

communities

● Strong oral communication skills, multilingual including Spanish and/or Indigenous languages is

ideal

● Experience working outdoors in gardening, landscaping, using hand and/or power tools is ideal

● Effective time management skills

● Willingness to travel throughout Sonoma, Marin, and Napa Counties and occasional travel to San

Francisco and Oakland. Must have valid driver’s license and proof of car insurance by job start

date

● Preferably an ideal candidate would have both a C-27 Landscaping Contractor License and a

C-61 Limited Specialty Contractor License

Physical Requirements:

– Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

– Capability to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials.

– Stamina to perform physical labor for extended periods.
