Position: ReCreate Executive Director

Location:  Rocklin, California

Employment:  Full Time. 

Benefits include paid sick leave, paid vacation, and paid holidays.  The position calls for both on-site and remote work.  Must be able to travel for regional community outreach.

The Founder and CEO is retiring, and we would like to fill the position by the end of the year to allow a few months of overlap for a smooth transition.

About ReCreate: 

Founded in 2008, nonprofit ReCreate works with businesses and individuals in the region to divert clean usable but unwanted items.  With these items, ReCreate provides hands-on educational programs and strives to make creative expression accessible to all. 

Education Program: ReCreate brings hands-on exploration of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) learning to schools throughout the greater Sacramento region. By integrating high-tech tools with reuse materials, we provide low-cost, high-impact learning and enrichment programs to the students of our region, one classroom at a time. Our learning programs span from preschool through high school. ReCreate believes that building interest in STEAM nurtures a more vibrant community, and creates a stronger future workforce. ReCreate also provides Sort Smart and Recycle Right waste reduction education to schools in the region.

ReCreate Craft Thrift Store and Studio: Located at 6827 Lonetree Blvd #105, in Rocklin, The ReCreate Craft Thrift (Creative Reuse) Store and Studio is open to the public Tuesdays – Saturdays. By working with individuals and businesses, ReCreate diverts approximately 65 tons of unwanted but perfectly usable items from entering the landfill. These items are sold far below current market prices, helping to make creative expression accessible to all. Additionally, proceeds from our store and studio help us bring programs to more schools in the region.

Duties of the position:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the programs at ReCreate to champion the mission and goals for ReCreate.
  • Ensure employees and business practices comply with regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Identify, train, develop and retain a talented team of employees who work to deliver our education and retail programs.  Work with team to set goals and measure success.  Manage strategic functions to help program managers succeed.   
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to identify, create and implement strategic goals and plans to actualize ReCreate’s mission and objectives.
  • Identify potential sources to grow philanthropic investments and fundraising efforts.
  • Represent ReCreate at social and community events in ways that strengthen and represent the brand in the community.
  • Maintain and develop the organizational culture and promote transparency and collaboration throughout the organization.
  • Develop partnerships with other nonprofits, educational stakeholders, and industry leaders.  Build relationships with leaders in the community. 

Additional qualifications that are important to the success of this role:

  • Strong and sound decision-making skills
  • Strong skills in social media, web, and technical proficiency
  • Understanding of California’s human resource and labor laws
  • Experience growing capacity at a nonprofit organization
  • Excellent budgetary skills
  • Proven track record in fundraising
  • Ability to understand educational trends, to keep the curriculum of ReCreate’s programs on the cutting edge.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift at least 30 lbs.
  • Valid California driver’s license, clean driving record, and willingness to drive ReCreate vehicle.
  • Ability to have a flexible schedule to oversee the needs of the nonprofit.
