Role: Teach 4-12 yr old girls* participating in our after-school STEAM Club program, in person at local schools in San Ysidro, California.

About Us: Project Scientist is an education nonprofit delivering high-quality experiences in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) to girls* from marginalized and underserved communities. We offer summer and after-school programs in partnership with local schools, school districts, nonprofit organizations, and STEM Companies. To date, we have provided nearly 116,000 STEAM education experiences, impacting over 24,000 girls from communities across the United States and Mexico. The Role:

At Project Scientist, we aim to ignite and cultivate STEM confidence in ALL girls. We want teachers who are looking to enhance their skills in culturally responsive pedagogy and with a sincere commitment to racial and gender equity in STEAM Education to teach our programs at local schools or community organizations. Our program is an opportunity for teachers to positively impact students by teaching them engaging STEAM content. Our STEAM Club is an afterschool program for 4-12 yr olds that runs for about 90 min per week for 3 months in the fall and 3 months in the spring. We are currently looking for an in person educator to run our after-school STEAM Club program at multiple locations in the San Ysidro area.

What you’ll get to do:

Create a welcoming and safe environment for students ages 4-12.

Become familiar with the Project Scientist curriculum, materials (including STEAM kits), and teaching policies.

Lead a classroom of 20 students using culturally responsive teaching strategies and engaging STEAM content.

Chaperone Project Scientist expeditions and program outings, ensuring students are safe and maintaining appropriate behavior.

Engage with key stakeholders, including funder and community partners and parents/caregivers for family STEAM nights and celebrations.

Participate in high-quality STEAM training to equip teachers with knowledge and strategies for implementing best practices in STEAM education.

Communicate with Project Scientist staff and other program team members.

Understand and show students the importance of STEM Superstars (female STEAM professionals) and expeditions by incorporating key talking points during classroom time.

Skills you will need here:

  • Elementary or Secondary Teaching credential; 1+ years of teaching experience

Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus

STEAM education experience is a plus

  • Integrity, sound judgment, self-confidence, maturity, and a sense of perspective
  • Thrive in groups built on communication and collaboration and encourage young girls to do the same

This role offers an hourly rate of $30/ hour and includes paid instructional time, preparation, and training.

Expected hours are between 3-5pm, 3-5 days per week
