Overview

The Community Relations Associate (CRA) is responsible for assisting the Government and Community Affairs team grow NEMS’ presence and brand in the communities that NEMS serves. The CRA will work with the Government and Community Affairs Team to build relationships with community partners and expand patient resources across the San Francisco Bay Area, particularly in or near neighborhoods where NEMS clinics are located. This person will develop and implement various outreach activities to NEMS’ current and future patient populations, and this person will also help with media initiatives as appropriate. The CRA will be assigned Special Projects that involve working closely with external individuals and partners such as the NEMS Volunteer Program. The CRA may also assist the Government and Community Affairs team in any communications, policy initiatives, and projects as appropriate. This position reports to the Government and Community Affairs Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Works with the Government and Community affairs team to develop strategic community partnerships and initiatives that will grow NEMS’ presence and brand in the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Tasked with Special Projects that involve working closely with external groups like the NEMS Volunteer Program. The CRA will work with the Executive Team, HR, and other staff as appropriate to develop a process for quickly on-boarding volunteers needed and will help support the program as needed.
  • Develop and help implement outreach activities to diverse patient populations to generate interest in NEMS services.
  • Contribute to NEMS’ community needs assessment process, including recruiting, coordinating, and running patient focus groups.
  • Represents NEMS in various key external coalitions, committees, taskforces, etc.
  • Assists with communication and training efforts to educate various internal departments and/or patients on important community-related issues.
  • Attends various virtual or in-person meetings, functions, events, and/or conferences both locally in the San Francisco Bay Area and at the state and federal levels as appropriate.
  • Helps develop stronger relationships with a wide array of community stakeholders and elected officials and their staff.
  • Aids the Government and Community Affairs Manager with press conferences and media relations.
  • Maintains confidentiality with respect to all information that is used or obtained in the course of work.
  • Performs other job duties as required by manager/supervisor.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree in health, public policy, social sciences, public relations, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience working in a legislative role, advocacy, or healthcare policy issues.
  • Must be able to work during some evenings and weekends
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, public speaking and researching skills
  • Familiarity with the federal, state, and local legislative and administrative processes.
  • A strong interest in working with health policy, politics, community relations, and/or media.
  • Basic understanding of FQHCs.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and have the independent judgment to advance the interests of the organization.
  • Demonstrate a proven track record of professionalism in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently while contributing and adding value to overall structure to the company

LANGUAGE:

  • Fluent reading, writing and speaking in English is required.
  • Fluent reading, writing and speaking in Chinese (Cantonese) is preferred, not required.
  • Ability to speak Vietnamese, Spanish or another language is an asset.

STATUS:

This is an FLSA Non-exempt position.

This is not an OSHA high-risk position.
