POSITION OVERVIEW – National/Remote, Full Time, Salaried Exempt

The Content Producer is a full-time (100% FTE) position at MediaJustice (MJ). This role is a member within MJ’s 3 person Communications Team whose primary responsibilities include pitching and implementing original MJ content series, producing and managing marketing materials, creating digital and social media content and managing social media channels, maintaining MJ’s website, writing email alerts and blog content and developing other visualizers that move forward our advocacy, network and narrative work.

This role carries out creative production of all kinds, including but not limited to: videos, graphics, explainers, statements, event promotion, content series, and special one-off productions. This role must balance the demands of using communication strategies and tactics to advance our campaign and advocacy goals while maintaining, promoting, and growing the MediaJustice brand as a thought leader within media, technology, culture, and movement spaces. 

The Content Producer is also responsible for developing, maintaining, and adapting the Communication Team’s internal infrastructure; including but not limited to: creating templates, standardizing tasks, and evaluating performance to ensure the timely development of materials, especially as they relate to cultural commentary.

This role reports to the Narrative Director at MediaJustice and will work collaboratively across all teams at the organization. Our ideal candidate will have and hold a deep understanding of who MJ’s audience is and what are the best and most strategic ways to speak to and engage our people as well as introduce us to new audiences. As our organization seeks to venture into producing more original content that incorporates cultural commentary, our ideal candidate will have fresh, creative ideas, their finger on the creative pulse, and strong project management skills to bring new ideas to fruition.

The Communications Team leads MediaJustice’s narrative strategy, content production, and external communications efforts. We are storytellers at heart who understand media is a powerful tool to connect our communities to one another and inspire our digital audiences to take actions that get us closer to media justice.  

 

POSITION DETAILS

What you’ll do:

  • Multimedia Production 
    • Pitch and execute audio and visual creative projects that advance our mission and respond to the current moment, including MJ original content such as our pop culture video series, That’s So Black.
    • Develop and manage production timelines of creative projects and associated promotional tasks; must be able to project manage the entire production process from ideation through promotion and distribution. 
    • Collaborate and coordinate with MJ staff and partners as needed, and determine who internally is needed to produce each project, what needs to be outsourced to consultants, who may need to be brought on as guests/co-hosts, and map out project promotion and evaluation. 
    • Develop, edit and package content (i.e., graphic visuals/elements, video editing, sound engineering).
  • Digital Marketing and Communications
    • Develop content for, manage and evaluate performance of MJ’s website and various MJ social media channels (Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook), including producing graphics, visuals, and videos optimized for our platforms
    • Write and edit blog content. 
    • Update and maintain the editorial calendar and other elements of MJ’s internal communications infrastructure.
    • Fulfill communications requests received from other MJ teams, including developing graphics, promoting events on social media, sending out email alerts, and uploading blog content to MJ’s website.
    • Write email alerts, analyze email performance and identify and implement list-building activities to expand MJ’s online base and deepen online base engagement. 
    • Serve as liaison between programmatic teams and consultants when elements of communications projects need to outsourced, including supporting press coordination.

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • 4+ years of experience in graphic design with demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop and understanding of typography, layout, color theory, hierarchy, and branding 
  • 4+ years of experience in video and audio editing including the ability to create simple animation and explainer videos, edit and package long-form recordings and sourcing appropriate sounds and soundtracks for videos and events
  • Demonstrated proficiency in WordPress and Mailchimp and proficiency managing social media channels including Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook
  • Strong writing skills across a variety of digital platforms and strong project management skills to manage creative projects

The Content Producer is a 40 hour/week, full-time, exempt position on the Communications Team that is fully remote, and reports to the Narrative Director. It includes the opportunity to travel occasionally.

Compensation / Benefits: 

MediaJustice practices a negotiation-free compensation policy and has set salaries based on level in the organization and years of experience. Salaries are benchmarked to be in the top 25% for the three most expensive U.S. cities. The salary level for this role is that of Specialist and the range is 75,500-87,000, based on the experience-tier you land in. This is a salaried, overtime-exempt position. In addition to the salary, total compensation includes the following benefits: 

  • A fully remote organization, with work flexibility to meet your schedule.
