Come join Lotus Bloom as our first Director of Finance & Administration at our main office in the San Antonio neighborhood in East Oakland! We are looking for someone who possesses a wealth of nonprofit finance and administration experience that is also passionate about early childhood education. Lotus Bloom’s mission is to provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive space to traditionally underserved populations to come together as a community to provide children with a rich learning foundation. ​

What You’ll Do

The Director of Finance & Administration is responsible for Lotus Bloom’s financial operations, as well as other administrative functions including human resources, operations, facilities, and information technology. The Director of Finance & Administration will be a strategic thought-partner reporting to the Executive Director and will supervise one direct report, the Finance & Operations Administrator. In addition, this position acts as the human resources department and manages personnel matters. A successful candidate would take over the finance work that is currently held by a contracted part-time Accountant/Bookkeeper. 

What Experience You Will Bring

  • Minimum of 7 years of overall professional work experience with at least five (5) years at the associate director or director level with a track record of successful performance leading a department of at least three (3) direct reports.
  • At least five (5) years demonstrated successful experience in nonprofit accounting with at least three (3) years at management-level working with nonprofit boards.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in the practical application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial controls and nonprofit financial/tax reporting.
  • At least three (3) years of advanced nonprofit accounting experience and skill using accounting software and tools such as QuickBooks, MS Excel, ADP, Bill.com, or similar software.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with computer systems including Mac OS, MS Office Suite, Google Workspace and/or willingness to learn.
  • Previous experience managing human resources function
  • Familiarity and/or experience with ADP HR/payroll software or similar systems. 
  • At least three (3) years’ relevant experience managing/supervising direct reports.
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in benefits administration and financial implementation of applicable federal/state/local employment law.
  • Strong oversight and project management experience with finance, administrative, human resources, and facility staff and contract vendors.
  • The ability to adhere strictly to policies and procedures for handling confidential documentation and information.
  • A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization, and problem-solving skills to support and enable sound decision making.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively.
  • Ability to deliver presentations regularly and effectively to the Board and external stakeholders.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team in a collaborative environment and having the ability to work unsupervised to complete the job.
  • Possess current California drivers’ license with an insurable driving record and access to vehicle to perform responsibilities of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • Experience managing budgets of at least $2 million.
  • Experience with engaging donors and participating in fundraising events.
  • Experience with facility maintenance, capital improvements and emergency business operations planning.

Physical Requirements

This position performs its duties in an open office environment. You must be able to perform the following duties with or without accommodation:

  • Stand, sit, kneel, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motions for the duration of an eight (8) hour shift.
  • Ability to traverse at least two (2) flights of stairs
  • Ability to operate a computer to create and update documents frequently.
  • Communicate in a clear speaking voice in person, over the phone and during video conferences.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination series.
  • Able to regularly travel to each of our three sites located throughout downtown, San Antonio and east Oakland.
