The Role

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Communications Manager will play a key role in developing, implementing, and growing the organization’s storytelling, marketing and digital outreach strategies. This is an ideal role for someone who is passionate about uplifting historically marginalized voices, storytelling, and digital media.  

The position is responsible for working with leadership and staff to thoughtfully develop written, visual, and digital content for a range of platforms and target audiences in support of program recruitment, fundraising, community outreach, and brand building.  

The Communications Manager will manage multiple social media platforms, develop and oversee email marketing campaigns, and help manage JVS’s brand support function to ensure that materials are consistent, convey the organization’s brand in a unified way, and comply with brand standards.  

They must have a strong familiarity with key social justice issues, asset-based communications, and have a compelling writing style, ability to adapt tone, and be comfortable with utilizing a variety of digital platforms.  

Scope

  • Partner and strategize with the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Marketing Production and Systems Analyst, and other JVS program staff, on ongoing marketing and communications projects. 
  • Serve as a liaison between the communications and marketing team, staff and partners, to manage external communications campaigns.
  • Serve as primary contact for non-recruitment project requests to marketing from internal programs as assigned.
  • Research, write, and edit content collaboratively for websites, program recruitment, external publications, white papers, fliers, content for press releases, media alerts, blogs, speeches, Op-Eds, human interest stories, key messages, talking points, and video scripts.  
  • Create and coordinate compelling multimedia content designed to engage JVS’s target audiences, including images for social media and blogs, designing flyers, one pagers, infographics and reports.  
  • Develop, manage and implement agency-wide digital marketing strategy through an equity lens, including digital marketing campaigns for partner agencies and collaborative projects. 
  • Develop, coordinate, and provide advice on graphic content, help develop concepts for written materials, and partner with program teams to develop written and visual content for a variety of organizational needs. 
  • Research, generate, and publish content for jvs.org, social media, as well as reports, print materials, presentations and info-graphics; Manage social media platforms. 
  • Assist with developing and coordinating marketing collateral for annual impact report, end of year appeal, and peer to peer fundraising opportunities.
  • Coordinate targeted donor communication campaigns for individual giving, corporate sponsors, volunteers, and alumni. 
  • Support JVS events with strategy, content development, social media, execution, and reporting.  
  • Ensure all content development represents JVS’s organizational values in alignment with key messaging, style guide, and brand standards.  
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience working in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, or other applicable experience.
  • Skilled storyteller with proven track record of strategizing on, planning, and creating, engaging digital, print and visual content and campaigns that include written copy, graphics, images, video, and more.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to build positive professional relationships with a diverse team of colleagues, clients, partners, and community members.   
  • Incredibly self-driven, detail-oriented, and organized; ability to maintain high productivity while balancing competing priorities, multiple projects, and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of software that is related to email marketing, graphic design, and digital storytelling. 
  • Fluency and/or experience with in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, and Mailchimp; fast learner of new digital programs.
  • Personal or professional experience with historically disinvested communities and a deep commitment to increasing access to opportunities for people of color and communities with low financial wealth.

  • Annual Salary: $85,000 – $95,000
