Truly a unique and inspirational organization, I-House is a non-profit organization committed to fostering intercultural respect and leadership skills to promote an equitable, peaceful world. Originally founded in 1930, I-House remains a vibrant community affiliated with the University of California, Berkeley. Housing over 600 UC Berkeley undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral students, I-House promotes lifelong friendships and learning throughout a vastly multicultural living and learning community, promoting greater understanding and acceptance. Approaching its centennial anniversary, I-House is positioned in a crucial space to continue broadening perspectives in our increasingly global world.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the CFO, the Financial Analyst is crucial in advancing I-House’s mission by supporting financial sustainability and improving decision-making processes. We are seeking an experienced Financial Analyst to perform various financial planning and analysis tasks including budgeting, data analysis, modeling, forecasting, and providing insights into the financial operations of I-House.
The scope of the job responsibilities includes interacting with other I-House departments. The Financial Analyst’s goal is to help departments and the organization develop budgets, analyze performance metrics, forecast effects of strategy scenarios, and find areas for improvements in financial performance. using a variety of methods and techniques.
The ideal candidate will have a background in nonprofit finance or accounting, excellent analytical skills, and a commitment to supporting the mission of International House.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Collaborate with the CFO and Accounting Team to develop organizational and departmental budgets, create financial models, and forecast financial outcomes.
- Financial Reporting: Support month-end and year-end financial close processes by preparing comprehensive financial reports for management and board-level review.
- Variance Analysis: Work with department managers to review financial performance, explain budget-to-actual variances, and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
- Strategic Support: Conduct financial analyses to support leadership decision-making, strategy development, and initiatives that enhance the financial health and long-term sustainability of I-House.
- Data Analysis & Scenario Modeling: Utilize advanced financial modeling to simulate different financial scenarios, providing leadership with data-driven insights for long-term planning.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements in financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting to increase the accuracy and efficiency of financial operations. This task may include programming APIs among I-House systems as well as interface with external systems.
- Stakeholder Communication: Present complex financial data in a clear and understandable manner to non-financial stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability.
- Ad-hoc Analysis: Perform ad-hoc financial analysis as requested by leadership, supporting presentations for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Mission Alignment: Ensure that financial strategies align with I-House’s diverse programming and community-building efforts.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Analytical Expertise: Strong ability to analyze financial data, create detailed reports, and identify trends or discrepancies.
- Financial Acumen: In-depth knowledge of GAAP, IRS regulations for 501(c)(3) organizations, and nonprofit financial best practices.
- Technical Skills: Strong background in software to support financial operations, such as Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT, Blackbaud Raisers Edge, Excel for advanced financial modeling, accounts payable automation, Tableau, Expensify, Clover, TouchNet, Microsoft Power Platform, and banking automation, and University of California systems.
- Communication Skills: Ability to translate complex financial concepts into accessible language for various stakeholders, both internal and external.
- Multicultural Competencies: Commitment to working in a diverse and inclusive environment, with experience in engaging with multicultural teams.
- Problem-solving: Demonstrated ability to tackle challenges, identify areas for improvement, and implement effective financial strategies.
- Project Management: Experience managing multiple priorities and delivering results in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Confidentiality: Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Data Analytics, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit finance or accounting, with significant work in automation and data analysis.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- Compensation: $90,000 – $115,000/year.
- I-House also offers a robust benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage with 100% employer-covered premiums (dependent on plan selection),
