TITLE: Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA) Volunteer Program VISTA

POSITION SUMMARY:

Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA) helps young people overcome barriers through exceptional, free, integrated programs and personalized guidance in a trusted, nurturing environment. Our mission is guided by our core values: Respect, Responsibility, Support, Positive Communication, and Inclusion. Each year, HOLA provides 3,000 youth with transformational after-school programming that includes academic programs, instrumental music, visual arts, athletic leagues and clinics, wellness, a family services department that offers case management, counseling and therapy, and more.

 

As our Volunteer Program VISTA, you’ll play a critical role in making these programs possible by strengthening our 300+ volunteer corps and the systems that make their service possible. Working closely with the Volunteer Manager, Chief Programs Officer, and Chief Development Officer, this role is a great opportunity to learn about nonprofit operations, program development, and fundraising, while making a tangible difference in the lives of thousands of youth. MEMBER DUTIES: 

The VISTA at Heart of Los Angeles will be part of the 2022-23 Up2Us Sports VISTA cohort of 75 members. The VISTA will evaluate, build upon, and develop better structures for engaging volunteers within HOLA’s growing volunteer department, increasing effectiveness so that volunteers are placed and onboarded in ways that will allow us to provide a stronger volunteer stewardship experience. They will optimize HOLA’s Salesforce database, streamline the volunteer onboarding process, develop a strong system for volunteer background checks, and build out our volunteer appreciation process.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Dynamic and collaborative personality with great people skills
  • Strong organizational and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and balance competing priorities
  • Passion, warmth, and sensitivity for HOLA’s constituents and mission
  • Availability to work occasional evening and weekend hours
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and Google Workspace; experience with Salesforce or another database program preferred
  • Experience with nonprofits, volunteering, volunteer organizing, and/or education and training preferred
  • Ability to be a strong role model for youth during all working hours
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly preferred

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

In return for their service, Americorps VISTA members receive:

  • A modest living allowance of $1,027.88 bi-weekly
  • Health benefit and child care benefit during service
  • A $550 monthly housing stipend
  • Choice of Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $6,495 – or – cash post-service stipend of $1,800, upon completion of service
  • Relocation benefit – for relocation over 50 miles – of $750 plus mileage
  • Professional development through weekly trainings, skills learned in service, and experience in a nonprofit environment
