At Guide Dogs for the Blind, we create exceptional partnerships between people, dogs, and communities. With a network of instructors, puppy trainers, donors, and volunteers, we prepare highly qualified guide dogs to serve and empower individuals who are blind or visually impaired throughout the U.S. and Canada. We are looking for a HR Generalist to join us at our San Rafael, CA location, with the ability to travel to the Oregon Campus at least 4 times a year to be available for employees, conduct open enrollment, and support various employee events.

What you’ll do:

  • Act as ambassador for GDB’s culture, values, behaviors, and organizational initiatives, representing the HR department both inside and outside the organization.
  • Provide service and guidance to management on employee relations issues, policy interpretation, labor law compliance, and disciplinary actions
  • Manage and administer the review process, documentation for employees with performance issues, termination paperwork and reports, and exit meetings
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for leaves of absences, accommodations, return to work, and light-duty directives
  • Maintain an accurate HRIS system and collaborate with Payroll on related projects
  • Maintains electronic new hire process in HRIS, completes employee termination paperwork and conducts exit meetings. Ensures 3rd party COBRA compliance.
  • Administer health, welfare, and retirement plans and manage the full scope of benefits administration, education, and group presentations, including annual open enrollment process
  • Provide ongoing support of safety initiatives and new program rollouts and track all incidents, accidents, and Workers’ Compensation claims
  • Plan and execute company events such as quarterly new hire orientation, annual Holiday Party, and Service Awards
  • Completes organizational federal and state compliance reporting including EEOI, ERISA, ACA, OSHA.

The qualifications you’ll need:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent business experience
  • 5+ years general HR experience required, PHR certification preferred
  • Working knowledge of HR disciplines including compensation practices, organizational development, recruitment and selection, employee relations, performance management, and federal and state labor laws and regulations
  • Strong organizational problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of federal, California, and Oregon labor laws and leave regulations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products and internet research is essential
