About the Opportunity

Greenbelt Alliance is looking for a Director of Marketing & Communications who can strategically communicate this critical work in a way that resonates, inspires, and ultimately drives action for a more resilient Bay Area for all. This position is part of the executive leadership team and is the lead in identifying opportunities that position the organization as an effective and respected land-use policy advocate and regional collaborator bringing a unique value-add to realize a climate-resilient Bay Area.

With support from a skilled team, the Director of Marketing & Communications will be responsible for positioning Greenbelt Alliance’s brand so that the organization is impactful and influential on core climate-resilient issues. A key responsibility of this role is to set and drive the organization’s strategic communication objectives to inspire more donors to support our work and retain a loyal base of supporters. Additionally, the strategic communications set forth by the Marketing & Communications department will establish Greenbelt Alliance as a sought-after and trustworthy source of information for decision-makers.

By leveraging our well-established brand while constantly communicating about our role in major decisions and successes, the Director of Marketing & Communications will be a critical leader in helping the organization achieve its goals.

You’ll be a great Director of Marketing & Communications for Greenbelt Alliance if you:

  • Love crafting and implementing strategies that incorporate creative branding and communication tactics that will increase the visibility of the organization.
  • Are passionate about incorporating the organization’s values around diversity, equity, and inclusion clearly into all facets of communication.
  • Have a strong track record of leveraging the latest marketing tools and data-driven decisions to build awareness and drive conversions in order to grow an engaged base of supporters.
  • Enjoy providing guidance and support for the various marketing and communication tools used by the organization, including a WordPress-based website, email marketing via MailChimp, digital advocacy initiatives, social media and digital advertising campaigns, and Salesforce management.

Key activities include:

  • Creating and overseeing the communications strategy for the organization, which includes media relations, digital marketing, event planning, advocacy campaign support, fundraising, and leading discrete activities as needed to leverage team skills.
  • Leading the Marketing and Communications team (3 people total) to execute strategies across digital and traditional channels to meet key results laid out in the annual work plan.
  • Collaborating with leadership and across the organization to identify new opportunities that position Greenbelt Alliance as a thought leader in the land-use planning, climate resilience space.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • 6-10 years of marketing and communications experience, preferably with a political or advocacy-based background, with a commitment to make the Bay Area more equitable and climate-resilient
  • Proven team management and mentoring experience to collaboratively and creatively support the work efforts of colleagues at all levels and in all areas of the organization
  • Strong understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles, especially in the environmental justice context, and interest in centering equity in organizational and programmatic efforts
  • Exceptional project management, strategic planning skills, and communications skills
  • Advanced knowledge of digital marketing and CRM (specifically Salesforce) tools to enhance and amplify core messages and seamlessly manage the database to effectively capture and analyze analytics used to track performance and improve processes
  • Experience pitching and developing strong relationships with traditional and new media
  • Experience providing creative communications support and strategy to internal project teams simultaneously including coaching and supporting senior leaders as spokespeople

Timeline: We are hoping the Director of Marketing & Communications can start in early January 2023. Position open until filled. 

Starting Salary Range: $90,000 – $105,000, Full-time Employee (37.5 hours/week)
