Cultural Brokers trains and supports community-based, culturally congruent brokers to advocate on behalf of families, to connect parents experiencing economic and other challenges to community resources, and to support next-of-kin placement for children who must be removed from homes. Cultural Brokers currently operates in Fresno County, California and Sacramento County, California, and is planning to expand its work to additional counties, including outside of California.

Job Summary
Cultural Brokers is seeking a highly organized and detail oriented individual to serve part-time as Deputy Director of the organization. The Deputy Director has strong interpersonal skills and is responsible, under the supervision of the Executive Director, for overseeing financial and operational functions for Cultural Brokers, Inc. This position encompasses a broad range of important responsibilities, including:
- Management of Cultural Brokers’ finances in cooperation with the organization’s bookkeeper and board of directors and/or treasurer (e.g., monitoring cash flow and projected income/expenditures, overseeing financial accounts, preparing county proposals and budgets, and preparing other long-term forecasts)
- Management of contractual relationships, including those with the various counties / states the organization currently partners with or is exploring developing relationships with
- Preparation and retention of materials for Cultural Brokers’ board of directors
- Human resources responsibilities such as supporting hiring, people operations and talent development
- Filing required documents with appropriate federal, state, and local agencies
- Office management of Cultural Brokers’ Fresno office
- General document retention and organization
The Deputy Director reports directly to the Executive Director, and does not have supervisory responsibilities for Cultural Brokers’ other employees. The Deputy Director will index towards the financial and contractual management piece of the job, but will also work to identify other opportunities to support and further the organization’s mission as needed, in partnership with the Executive Director.
The Deputy Director position is a part-time position, with an expectation of 20-30 hours per week.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
- Solid financial acumen with the ability to prepare budget documents and manage accounting and reporting processes
- Experience with contract management
- Able to work independently, exercise good judgment and make informed decisions with limited direction
- Able to communicate clearly and effectively and build strong relationships
- Able to effectively organize, prioritize and coordinate work activities
- Alignment with Cultural Brokers’ mission eliminating racial disparities in the child protection system
- Experience with oversight of personnel management and office management is preferred
- Strong technical competency and familiarity with the Microsoft suite of programs and general understanding of QuickBooks
Location
Cultural Brokers, Inc. is located in Fresno, California, and local candidates are strongly preferred. However, there is openness to adjusting the location for this role for the right candidate.
Compensation
The salary for this position is $5,300 per month for 30 hours/week (and $3,533 per month for 20 hours/week).
