Job Summary: The Resident Manager is responsible for ensuring safe and secure living conditions for all residents. The position requires a reliable and sensitive individual who is dedicated to serving the needs of low-income tenants. S/he must display a calm manner and presence during emergency situations, exercise sensible and impartial judgment, and be willing to perform a variety of tasks.

Status: Part-time, On-Call, Nonexempt

Location: Chinatown neighborhood, San Francisco

Hours: On-call Monday through Friday, 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m., and Saturday and Sunday, and CCDC Holidays from 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. (24-hours)

We own and/or manage approximately 37 affordable housing buildings serving over 4,500 low-income seniors, single adults, formerly homeless adults, and families of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds in San Francisco’s Chinatown, Tenderloin, Western Addition, and Polk Gulch neighborhoods. General Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform nightly inspection/security check of all floors and lock up all common areas as needed or in an emergency matter.
  • Respond to and handle all building emergencies during on-call shift: flood, fire, electricity outrage, serious injury, medical emergency – report to Property Manager
  • Log and document serious events on incident reports 
  • Maintain a logbook with all activity and incidents, including date and time of occurrence (if no events that day, then indicate no events)
  • Report any graffiti on both interior and exterior side of the building to Property Manager
  • Separate recyclables, compostable, and landfill trash when needed
  • Assists in printing and posting notices in a timely manner as requested by the Property Manager
  • Receive, direct, and assist tenants with maintenance requests, Work Orders, and Incident reports as needed and submit to Property Manager in a timely manner
  • Enforce all rules, policies, and procedures as written in Lease Agreement 
  • Provide access to the property promptly and professionally (as needed)
  • Sort incoming tenants mail into tenant’s mailboxes twice a week: Tuesdays and Fridays no later than 8pm
  • Help tenants with translation services (Chinese to English/English to Chinese) of any CCDC letters or notices as needed
  • Respond to all telephone calls, otherwise, return calls as soon as possible
  • Required to reside in resident manager unit and stay every night while on duty

Nightly Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform nightly security check on each building floor and lock up common areas as needed or in an emergency matter.
  • Clean building entrance, hallway, and community area when needed
  • Help tenant with any Work orders/Incident Reports and translation services w/ CCDC documents between 5pm-8pm when requested 
  • Anticipated time to perform nightly duties per day: 30 minutes- 2hr max

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Commitment to respond to all cell phone calls/texts within ten minutes
  • Commitment to be at property site within thirty minutes of being notified of any building emergency when on call
  • Willingness to do varied tasks
  • Ability to work with people of diverse social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Act in a pleasant, professional, and calm manner

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English and Chinese (Cantonese) – verbal and written 
  • Strong phone/written/text communication skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse ethnic groups
  • Ability to work after hours and on weekends as needed
  • Sensitivity to issues facing low-income tenants and senior tenants
  • Good judgment and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as resident manager 
  • Familiarity with affordable housing projects

Condition of Employment

As of January 4th, 2022, All Chinatown Community Development Center employees are required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. All new hires must show proof of vaccination status at the time of employment offer. Exemptions will be made for applicants with a valid medical reason or a sincerely held religious belief and must be submitted within a timely requested manner. Additional documentation may be required by CCDC if exemption is approved.
