The Opportunity

Aim High is seeking a detail-oriented and driven professional to serve as the HR Generalist. Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance & Operations, this position will support the management of the organization through the oversight and management of the human resources function and general operational functions of a small, but growing nonprofit organization. We need a smart and resourceful HR professional who can set us up for success for our current needs and as we prepare to scale to impact more students.

Provide HR management (60%)

  • Design and manage comprehensive HR processes and practices that ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Ensure all onboarding and offboarding activities and paperwork are accurate and completed by employees and managers.
  • Create and maintain accurate job descriptions for all positions and ensure accurate FLSA classifications.
  • Establish and maintain a procedural manual for HR functions, including onboarding paperwork and process, payroll setup and processing, offboarding process, and the like. Train people managers on relevant processes. 
  • In partnership with the Senior Management Team, develop and document HR policies and processes, including updating the employee handbook to reflect all related policies and practices accurately, designing and managing a compensation system, ensuring a competitive benefits package, and leading performance management and employee engagement for the organization.
  • Manage the HRIS and payroll system.
  • Serve as the internal culture lead in partnership with the Senior Management Team and Directors within the organization.
  • Assist with central office recruiting needs, as needed. 
  • Support with employee relations as they arise, including the compliant management of leaves of absences of any type, the ADA interactive process, etc.
  • Maintain employee personnel files so they are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and best practices.

Provide payroll support (20%)

  • Serve as the backup payroll support person who can help with running payroll as needed
  • Ensure all pay changes are accurately captured in the HRIS in a timely manner
  • Assist with grant coding and reporting related to payroll
  • Assist with audit needs related to HR and payroll
  • In collaboration with other members of the FinOps team, ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.

Oversee central office operations (20%)

  • Manage central office operational needs with the support of another employee, including office supply ordering, catering orders, business cards, liaise with custodial staff and landlord for work orders or requests/repairs, and the like.
  • Develop central office operating norms, including general cleanliness and orderliness of common areas.
  • Ensure the central office phones are answered and mail is managed and sorted in a timely manner. 
  • Assist with accounting operational needs as they arise.

Qualifications

You will be successful in this role if you…

  • Possess a deep commitment to the mission and values of Aim High 
  • Have at least 2-3 years of people operations experience is ideal; formal HR education or certification is a plus
  • Nonprofit experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of applicable HR compliance laws and best practices
  • Maintain sensitive and confidential information
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a solutions-oriented mindset
  • Innately hold a positive, can-do attitude with a propensity for action
  • Attention to detail and the ability to operate with considerable independence to effectively establish priorities and work accurately under time constraints.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Proficient in using computers and software such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications

JOB DETAILS

  • Reports To: Senior Director of Finance and Operations
  • Location: San Francisco, CA – must be able to regularly travel to the SF office up to 4 days per week
  • Pay range starts at $70K and will be aligned to market benchmarks
  • Classification: Full-Time (30-40 hours per week); Exempt from overtime
