Position Summary:
Restore the Delta works in the areas of public education, research, program and policy development, and outreach so that all Californians recognize the Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay Delta as part of California’s natural heritage, deserving of restoration. We interface with local, state and federal agencies to advance this vision.
The Outreach Program Manager will lead and support community-centered outreach and engagement efforts to advance the mission of Restore the Delta. This role is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating outreach strategies that build relationships with impacted communities, partner organizations, and stakeholders. The Manager will work closely with program staff to ensure community voices are meaningfully included in campaigns, education efforts, and policy initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with program managers to develop and implement outreach plans to engage frontline and historically underrepresented communities in environmental justice initiatives.
- Coordinate and support community events, workshops, and meetings (virtual and in-person).
- Serve as a liaison between the organization and community members, partner organizations, and local leaders.
- Cultivate relationships with grassroots organizations, advocacy groups, and local institutions to strengthen collaboration and mutual support.
- Assist in the development of outreach materials, including flyers, presentations, social media content, and newsletters.
- Represent the organization at coalition meetings, public forums, and community events.
- Support data collection, impact tracking, and reporting on outreach metrics and community feedback.
- Collaborate with the communications and policy teams to align outreach strategies with broader organizational goals.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in community outreach, organizing, public engagement, or a related field.
- A love of the San Francisco Bay-Delta estuary, rivers, and healthy waterways.
- Capacity to think strategically and analytically about social, economic, cultural, and political issues affecting a community.
- Passion for environmental justice, racial equity, and community empowerment.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and execute outreach strategies in alignment with organizational goals.
- Experience building and sustaining partnerships with community-based organizations, coalitions, and/or advocacy groups.
- Comfortable with public speaking and presenting complex topics in accessible ways.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and social media platforms.
- Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Reliable transportation or ability to travel locally as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of environmental justice issues, climate policy, or public health impacts of environmental inequity.
- Experience working with BIPOC, low-income, immigrant, or rural communities.
- Experience with event planning and facilitation.
- Bilingual (Spanish) are a strong plus
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary range: $75,000-80,000, commensurate with experience.
