Position Type: Full-Time (37.5+ hours/week), Exempt

Reports To: Sr. Director of Development, Individual Giving

Pay Range: $120,000/year

Total Compensation:

Position Overview:

JFS is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the Development team as the Director of Planned Giving & Major Gifts. In this role, you have the opportunity to use your skills and experience to make a meaningful difference in your community and help change lives across San Diego. JFS’s Director of Planned Giving & Major Gifts leads the organization’s planned giving efforts and is equally responsible for building and managing a portfolio of major donors and prospects who have the capacity to make a planned and/or significant annual gift. This position reports directly to the Sr. Director of Development, Individual Giving and works closely with other members of the Advancement team.

Responsibilities:

  • Builds and grows a portfolio of planned giving prospects
  • Maintains and grows a portfolio of annual giving donors utilizing various tools including, but not limited to personal visits, networking events, letters, emails, and phone calls
  • Manages relationships with planned giving and annual donors at various stages of identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Serves as resident expert in planned giving, joining other fundraisers on solicitations and informational meetings
  • Utilizes Raiser’s Edge CRM software to plan and record all donor activity
  • Achieves and exceeds annual goals as assigned by Sr. Director of Development, Individual Giving
  • Works with Sr. Director of Development, Individual Giving to finetune and solidify Planned Giving cultivation and stewardship processes
  • Arranges tours, workshops/presentations and other opportunities for planned giving and major donor prospects to increase interest in JFS
  • Works closely with estate and planning attorneys and other professional service providers to identify prospects

Skills/Experience/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:

  • Must have a valid CA driver’s license, a reliable automobile, insurance, and willingness to drive off-site/travel throughout San Diego County
  • Education – BA/BS degree at minimum or equivalent
  • Experience – minimum of 5 years of fundraising or business development experience, with a strong understanding and foundation of fundraising strategies and tactics, including moves management, donor research, donor cultivation and stewardship
  • Planned Giving – should have specific experience in planned giving as well as knowledge of gift planning process and donor advised funds
  • Partnerships – needs experience with financial planners, attorneys, and other relevant professional service providers
  • Technical Skills – must have experience working with CRM software, Raiser’s Edge experience a plus
  • Communication/Interpersonal Skills – must be articulate, poised, and possess strong writing skills and have the ability to listen to, connect with, and inspire donors
  • Administration – proven to be detail oriented and possess excellent project management skills
