Position Description
The primary responsibility of the Director of School Counseling is to support the development and implementation of school counseling programs based on the identified needs of the students in the individual school building and Bright Star Schools as an organization.
Job Duties (may include, but are not limited to the following):
Provide Leadership to ensure:
● Implementation of the school counseling program at the school and organization levels
● Integration of school counseling programs with the total educational curriculum of the school, and organization
● Support in hiring qualified, diverse school counselors
● Individual and group supervision of school counselors
● Collaborate with school leaders on school counselor performance evaluation process aligned with the appropriate role of the school counselor
● School counselor training is focused on school counseling programs and emphasizes the school counselor’s role as an educational leader, advocate, collaborator, and systemic change agent.
Provide Advocacy For:
● Students’ ensuring their needs are met, based on school and organization data
● Eliminating barriers to access and equity to a rigorous education for all students
● Ensuring equity in policies and procedures that have an impact on students
● The implementation of school counseling programs for all students in alignment with the ASCA National Model
● School counselors to participate in school leadership teams
● Programs and services for key stakeholders that lead to student success and achievement
● School counselors to spend 80 percent or more of their time in direct and indirect services to students as defined by the ASCA National Model
Collaborate With:
● School counselors to assess the professional development needs of the school counselors in the school and organization
● Senior VP of Student and Family Services to ensure regularly scheduled professional development, consultation, and supervision for the continuous improvement of the school counseling program
● School and organization leadership regarding crisis response efforts
● College and University personnel in the recruitment and supervision of school counseling interns
● School counselor professional associations to encourage membership and involvement
● Any other duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
● Master’s Degree in school counseling and a valid P.P.S. credential
● Experience managing or supervising a counseling program
● Experience in coaching adults and leading them to achieve goals
● Strong facilitation and active listening skills
● Strong personal commitment to social justice
● Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
● Experience facilitating engaging professional development to a variety of stakeholders
● 3-5 years of working as a School Counselor
● 3 or more years of experience implementing the ASCA National Counseling Model
● California administrative credential is highly desired
● Computer skills: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Google Suite
Salary and Benefits:
Salary: Commensurate with Experience, starts at 85K
