POSITION SUMMARY
The Institutional Giving Manager will play a critical role as part of HOLA’s grants team that fundraises and engages with foundations, government entities, and other institutions. This position will create growth in HOLA’s grant writing capacity, and in addition to stewarding a portfolio of relationships to help to maintain HOLA’s current private funders, will take a leading role in our efforts to identify and pursue new public funding streams. The Institutional Giving Manager will report directly to the Chief Development Officer and will collaborate with the Sr. Grants Manager and Grants Coordinator to meet department goals. The position requires the ability to work independently, strong project management skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to navigate complex funding opportunities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Become an “expert” on HOLA’s programs, focusing efforts and resources to help meet programmatic and financial needs.
- Write a high volume of grant proposals and reports for assigned funder portfolio, accurately and effectively meeting funder requirements, deadlines and specifications.
- Develop compelling grants narrative, as well as proposal and project budgets.
- Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of city, county, state, and federal government funding opportunities; identify grant opportunities matched to HOLA programs and activities, and provide informed recommendations as to appropriate funding leads to pursue.
- Lead preparation of government grant applications, including developing a project plan for submission, assigning tasks to team members, coordinating stakeholders.
- Liaise with funders and prepare the development team for and participate in site visits, etc. as necessary.
- Attend RFP sessions, workshops, etc
- Develop and maintain relationships with funding agencies, program officers, and collaborating organizations. Effectively coordinate between all constituents from grant prospecting through closeout.
- Work with finance and program staff to monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with all grant requirements.
- Write, speak and communicate with authenticity and passion for HOLA’s mission, values, programs and goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or equivalent experience required
- A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience as a non-profit fundraiser, prior grant-writing experience required.
- Experience securing and managing government funding and contracts preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Analytical, quantitative and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently with a high degree of reliability, accuracy, good judgment and productivity.
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to set and meet goals and deadlines.
- Strong multitasking and problem-solving skills; ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced environment and proven experience managing large-scale projects.
- Skilled in managing internal and external relationships to support proposal development, compliance and implementation.
- Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Commitment to the organizational mission and sensitivity to the needs of underserved youth.
VACCINATION POLICY
Heart of Los Angeles requires its employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19, subject to certain exemptions as required by law. New hires working at Heart of Los Angeles must be fully vaccinated no later than 60 days after hire and submit to enhanced masking and social distancing requirements until they are fully vaccinated.
